Founded in early 2025 by Soubhik Dawn — a two-time founder, product leader, and Stanford and IIT Kharagpur alumnus — who had worked in tech for nearly two decades, on both sides of the hiring table.
As a hiring manager, Soubhik saw how ATS software was filtering out strong candidates who simply hadn’t optimized their resumes for the right keywords. As a candidate, he experienced the frustration of submitting thoughtful applications and hearing nothing back.
The 2022 tech layoffs made it personal. Friends and colleagues — some on immigrant visas with weeks to find new employment — were navigating an already-broken process under extraordinary pressure.
The stakes were real. The tools available weren’t good enough.
Upplai was built from that experience: an AI resume optimizer that actually explains what it’s doing, charges fairly for a search that is finite by nature, and helps job seekers present their genuine best selves — not a fabricated version manufactured by a black-box algorithm.
