I've been on both sides of the hiring process.
A few years ago, several friends and former colleagues were laid off within a few months of each other. Good people, the kind you'd hire again without thinking twice. What stayed with me wasn't that it happened. It was watching them open a resume they hadn't touched in years and try to rebuild it in a week, with a severance clock running and a mortgage due.
I'd spent years on the other side of that table. As a hiring manager I worked with recruiters and screening software, and I knew how many good candidates never made it through. Not because they weren't qualified, but because nobody had ever told them how the process actually worked. I'd also been the applicant, sending careful applications into silence.
That gap is why I started Upplai. Not to write anyone's resume for them, but to show people exactly what the software sees and what the recruiter sees, so they can fix it themselves while they still have the time and the head space to do it properly.
I wrote The Two-Screen Resume for the same reason. Everything I've learned about how resumes actually get read, written down, so it exists whether or not you ever use what we built.
